Adventures in Sewing: Episode 1 ~ Inital Taggie

So if you recall I was recently given a Singer Sewing Machine so that I could practice one of my new hobbies :)
I wanted to make something special for my new Nephew but couldn't decide what to do until I was looking through some of the 2E's baby photos and noticed their taggie blankets. Both kiddos always loved their taggies so I knew this would be the perfect thing for my first project. However, Me being Me, I wanted to put another spin on things so I decided to do an initial instead of a plain old square.

Since this was my first project of this type there was lots of trial and error to say the least haha but hopefully this little tutorial makes sense.

Initial Taggie

Materials:
  • Colorful Fabric
  • Ribbon is various colors, widths, textures.

Step 1: Decide how large you want the letter to be.
Step 2: Choose your font in a Word program, print it, and cut it out.
(I free handed mine because I was too impatient to wait for my new ink to arrive so please ignore the pencil marks)

Step 3: Place two pieces of fabric face to face and pin the cut out letter where you want it on the fabric.
Step 4: Cut out the letter leaving a 1/4 inch or so extra fabric around the letter.

Step 5: Cut ribbon into 4-5 inch lengths. *Sorry I forgot to snap a pic when the ribbons were piled up :-/
Step 6: Fold ribbons in half and pin around the edge of the face of one of the cutout letters.

Step 7: Place letters face to face again and pin in place.
Note: I removed my ribbon pins at this point simply because I only had long ones and was running out of room haha

Step 8: Sew around the outside of the letter and leave a 1.5 inch wide space for turning.

Step 9: Unpin and turn inside out.
Step 10: Top Stitch place you use to turn inside out to finish the letter.

Final Step: Ohh & Ahhhh and be very impatient until you can give to Little Mr.Adorable for whom you made it. :) :)

It may not be perfect, I won't point out the mistakes, but I am happy with it and as soon as I get a pic with Zach and his taggie I will share it.
I do believe I am going to LOVE this new sewing hobby plus I feel pretty good at already working on one of my resolutions with it only being 8 days into the New Year :) :)

How are you going on your resolutions or changes so far?

Can you Guess?!?

Are you the type of person who looks at a photo and sees 2, 4, or 5 things that it could be instead of what it actually is? I know I am as I have always liked those picture books that have a photo and you have to guess what it is before turning the page and seeing the real thing. I admit I still like those books even now and so I thought we could play our own little version here this evening.

Take a good look at the photo below

Have any ideas? I want to hear what you think this is.
I know what it is and I still do a double take when I see the real thing ahahha

Ok have you got your guess all ready? Are you going to tell me what it is?
If you will play along and tell me your guess I will show you the answer.

But I want you to post your guess in the comments.
Don't be embarrassed at what you guess because it is amazing how different people see the same photo.

Ok are you ready??

Let's see if you are correct.

Did you guess........

A Dragonfly????

If so then you are correct!!

looks like he is resting here

I found this not-so-little guy hanging out on the Jeep today and just couldn't stop myself from grabbing the camera and snapping a few photos. He was HUGE and so very colorful. His wings were like miniature stained glass windows! It is simply amazing how something so odd looking can be so beautiful.

I can't wait to see what you really guessed -- be honest now hahaah

Sneaks and Surprises!

Happy Wednesday -- well kinda, I am just glad it is almost over as it has been one-of-those-days :-/

Anywho ~ I am just popping in real fast to leave this....

(loving this color scheme and hopefully it works out so I can share hahaha - no seriously!)

and this...

....... beauty that Heather surprised me with for Christmas! Little did I know that when she asked me what color I preferred that this was the reason. I just thought I was helping her pick out some prints for herself. -- I Love It!! Thanks H! btw-- she found these awesome prints from Lux Art over on Etsy, you should stop by and check her out as she has some pieces to fit any wall in your house. :)

What things have you been surprised with lately?

P.S. My Day 4 Challenge will be posted tomorrow as I am attempting to get to bed before 11 for the first time this week tonight :)
