Perk it Up! Vanity Redo

Project E.M.M.A.: Round 2

1 Free Vanity
1 Teen Age Daughter who detested the beige and gold finish.
2 Cans of Purple Paint
1 Bottle of Lime Paint

= 1 Fabulous Purple Vanity!!

------------------------------------------------

In my on going mission to make Emma's room more colorful this vanity was our latest change.
I received it for free awhile back and the beige & gold finish was just not doing it for her.

She took her own sweet time deciding on what colors she wanted to use but finally settled on Purple and Lime. We grabbed the paint, lightly sanded the piece, and started spraying.

Em seems to be happy with the results so far!

We still have the chair to paint in Lime and we are going to pick out the material for the seat.
After that we are on to picking out fabric for her new quilt!!

Before/After
What have you painted to "make new" lately? Did you make it colorful or did you tone down the color?
I would love to see your projects!!

Project E. M. M. A.

I am a MOM on a mission! If I do not accomplish my mission then I will fail as a Mom!!

Yea Right who am I kidding?!? Seriously though, I am on a mission to redo Ms. Em's room. The last major update we had on it was her new bed back in August of last year! Hmm I have been totally slacking!!

If you happen to follow me on Pinterest then you know that I am always on the lookout for colorful pieces to add to Ms. Em's room. We have a few larger projects that we will be working on soon but I stumbled across something this weekend that I knew I had to go ahead and do.

I have always loved seeing my kids names on things. I am sure it stems from the fact that my own name is never on anything unless it is a custom made piece due to it's crazy spelling(love you Mom!) I also have a major love of letters, any kind of letters will do as I am not picky at all! This time I did find all the same style letters in Ms. Em's name so I knew I had to get them. I also knew that I wanted to make some sort of hanging sign and this is what I came up with.

Plain ole street sign letters(no I did not steal them!!)

 Pick out some pretty papers.

Trim to fit and ink the edges.

Stack of letters and finished paper before the mod-podge was pulled out.

Add some ribbon and WaaaLaaa you have a Name Sign!!

I tied a knot in the ribbon and just hung it over the top of her bed.
It may not stay here but for now she likes it :) and I LOVE it!!

Is it crazy that I like seeing her name so much? I happen to think that it is cool to see your name on things.
Is your name easy to find on items at the gift shop? Do you have lots of pens, mugs, license plates for your 10-speed bike or are you all sad and nameless too? (laughing -- kinda)

Friday we are starting on one of the bigger projects for her room and I couldn't be more excited about it! Can't wait to share it!

A Brand New World

Last Sunday while I was out TheHandyMan did a total overhaul on Ms.Em's room. If I was brave I would show you the before photos but I will go ahead let you know that I would have to become a hermit if I showed those so just imagine a pre-teens room with lots of STUFF everywhere. TheHandyMan took it all out, Em sorted through the mountains and only kept what she would actually wear and fit(this was an issue for some reason *eye roll*)

Once everything was cleaned out he surprised her with a new bed!! I admit I was as happy as she was. Why would this be a such a surprise you may be thinking??  Last year we upgraded to a king bed so Em changed her twin to our queen and since then it has been on the box-springs without an actual bed, just the mattress and box-springs. Also, If you have ever heard the story of the cobbler's kids not having new shoes then let me tell you that this happens with all kinds of crafters including furniture builders.

Here is an example photo of her new bed(this is not her room)

She is loving it but says that she needs some steps because it is so high.

Now I am on the lookout for some great decor pieces and bedding. Since we live in a cabin with wood walls, floors and ceilings I want to add some fab colors to her room. Here are some ideas I have come across on my fave site Pinterest lately.

Loving these colors!

Something similar will be somewhere in her room for sure!

Not sure about yellow but I definitely want to paint her dresser a bright color.

Yes I think even a teen will like this haah maybe over her desk?

Love a vintage dress form!!

Yes please for great necklace and scarf storage!

So there are a few ideas Em and I have talked about. Of course it may end up being something totally different knowing her. I will keep you posted!

Built-In Beauties

Our Emma is wanting a bedroom make-over and the one thing she has voiced is that she wants it to be Black & White. Another thing she wants is an unusual bed. "I am an unusual girl so why would I want a normal bed?" is what she always says. She has even sketched out a few ideas to show TheHandyMan but so far nothing has been finalized.

Tonight I was looking around at  bed ideas and found a Dutch Bed or as I call them Built-In Beds. I am now on a mission to do get TH to do one of these in her room. My reasoning is that is will free up floor space and add extra storage at the same time -- a win-win right?!?

Here are some beds I found that are my inspiration -- we will see what Miss Em thinks ;)

Hopefully TheHandyMan and Miss Emma will agree with my idea and design something specifically for her.
I will keep you posted :)

Have a great weekend!
