Lay me down to sleep

It is said that you spend half your life in bed. Well I guess most people do, people who need more than 5-6 hours of sleep to get by or people who actually go to bed at decent time instead of playing doing research online.

Since the typical person seems to spend so much time in bed it would stand to reason that the actual bed itself would be a piece of furniture that is well thought out in design and comfort. Luckily I am Blessed beyond measure to me with a hubby who is an uber-talented wood worker.

When we moved to our little cabin in the woods 8 years ago we brought only a few pieces of furniture from our old contemporary house. One was a bedroom set that he had gotten after he graduated high school -- the bed was similar to the photo below.

It was a great bed and all but since we had been using that bed for 9 years by the time we moved in we decided it was time for a change plus it was simply not what we had in mind for the new house. We discussed what we wanted and Hubs got to work designing and building the new bed.

After a few weeks I came home and was surprised by Hubs and the 2E's with the perfect bed for our new bedroom! It was rustic yet refined, bold yet modest in it's style and I couldn't have been more happy with how it turned out. Plus - as an extra bonus the side rails went all the way to the ground so I didn't have to crawl under and clean out dust bunnies or hidden toys the kids may have stashed underneath *smile*

Love this bed!!

Fast forward 8 years and now we have upgraded to a new king size mattress set so obviously this bed does not work any longer so we are trying to come up with another fabulous looking bed for our room. We want something unique yet that will of course suit the room. Hopefully we will settle on something soon and hubs can get to building again so that we can have an actual bed again. I will keep you posted on what we come up with.

Do you have a piece of furniture that you absolutely love but for some reason had to change? Or are you looking for that special piece to complement your own bedroom?

  2. Oh, I love that bed, too. It's a shame it's not going to work with your new matresses. Bummer!
